We
purchase all of our ingredients from Amish farms and
stores. Our immediate hometown area, in east-central
Illinois, is the location of the fifth largest Amish
community in the world.
Carefully
chosen ingredients. Each of our biscuits and gourmet treats
are made with human food-grade ingredients, but with some very
important considerations for your dog. Following is a list of
each of our wholesome, dog-friendly ingredients.
Blackstrap
Molasses is significantly higher in
calcium than regular baking molasses and is a better choice for
your dog.
Pure Honey
from local Amish country apiaries provides the sweetness
that dogs love without using sugar.
Colored Sesame
Seed Sprinkles are used in place of sugared sprinkles that
you will find on many other dog treats.
Colors
from foods such as our creamy pink, smooth yellow
and luscious green, all come from food, not from
artificial food coloring. We use red beets for pink,
spinach for green and tumeric for yellow, red currant
for red and blueberries for blue.
Carob
is Mother Nature's alternative to chocolate. Carob
grows on trees in pod form, but is still classed as a
legume. Carob is a natural cocoa substitute for those
who cannot eat chocolate, including our four-legged
friends. Carob has no caffeine, which is the ingredient
in chocolate most harmful to dogs. Carob is also
virtually fat-free and is a rich source of protein,
fructose and vitamins A and B. We purchase carob in
large blocks for melting, in powder form as a dry
ingredient and as unsweetened carob chips.
All-natural peanut butter with no added sugar or salt.
We purchase a German brand supplied by the Amish stores
and find it to be an outstanding product. It's important
for your dog that our peanut butter has no added sugar
since we use other sweetening ingredients in our peanut
butter recipes.
Our
Flours and Powders. We purchase stone-ground whole
wheat flour in two varieties. Medium-ground provides
added fiber and a "crunchier" crunch to our biscuits and
fine-ground flour give a lighter finish to our cupcakes,
donuts and birthday/special occasion cakes. Naturally
white, unbleached flour is also used in our cake recipes
and unbleached flour is a better choice for your dog.
Yogurt
coating is the white "icing" you will find on many
of our gourmet dog treats. We also color the yogurt with
the all-natural food colors mentioned above.
Non-fat dry milk is used in our biscuit gourmet
treats versus regular or skim milk to be sure we add no
more fat from milk.
All-vegetable shortening made of hydrogenated
soybean and cottonseed oils is used in all of our
biscuit dog treats except for our cakes, cupcakes and
brownie formulas.
Liquids for flavor and processing include beef broth
and chicken broth - both used for flavor and for
processing and water for processing.
Organic low-sodium tomato sauce and parmesan cheese
are the savory toppings on our cheese pizzas, BBQ Bones
and BBQ Ribs gourmet dog treats. As a "certified"
organic product, the tomato sauce must also be made up
of ingredients, each of which must also be certified
organic, such as garlic. Our sauce has no added salt,
which is a good choice for your dog.
New
product development: Wheat-free, corn-free, soy-free
gourmet treats and a couple flavors of dog ice cream are
currently under development. We look forward to offering
these, and other fine gourmet dog treats to our
customers in the near future.
Thank
you for your interest in our gourmet dog treats. We
appreciate the opportunity to serve you - and mostly to
make your four-legged loved one very happy with our
treats.
